This is a new author for me and I was drawn to this book by the blurb. I love stories like these with animals. All of the animals were such fun. Micah and Santi were a great couple and I mostly enjoyed their back and forth. I did get a little tired of Micah's insecurities. They seemed a little misplaced because Santi, despite his terror about the threat of blindness, tried to do his best to reassure him. The supporting characters were well done and likable and, again, the animals were so enjoyable. The problems I had with this book were the little angsty things thrown in for, seemingly, no reason, like the call from the VA consultant doctor. Useless and unnecessarily hurtful for Santi to my way of thinking. Also, the unpleasant conversation Micah had with Christy. That encounter took me out of the story with anger and it took a while to get back into my mind set, waiting for her to do something nasty. And, then it turned out to be a ridiculous non-event and only mentioned in passing later in the book. Very manipulative. It really threw the book off for me. At least Micah and Santi got an HEA.
